My primary research interests are in the areas of philosophy of biology, philosophy of science, and history of philosophy of science.  I am especially interested in the following interrelated topics:

• the methodology of population biology, especially evolutionary ecology

• the role of models in biology and science more generally

• the properties of scientific explanations

• connections among different fields of science, i.e., the unity of science

• the history of logical empiricism, especially the work of Otto Neurath
