The Living Room

Interactional Sociophonetics Lab

I direct the Interactional Sociophonetics Lab, a research space in the Department of Linguistics for collecting and analyzing interactional data across audio, video, and articulatory modalities. Lab members meet weekly to work on collaborative research projects, present work in progress, discuss articles or theoretical topics of interest, and work through methodological challenges.

The Living Room corpus currently consists of over 100 recorded interactions with 160 speakers. Studies have thus far examined phonetic variation in vowel quality, voice quality, and prosody, and how such variation relates to the ways that speakers use their bodies and express affect.
