MARRIED 67 YEARS

[picture]

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Baughman, among the few couples in Indiana who have been married as long as 67 years, are shown in this picutre by a Chronicle-Tribune photographer in front of their residence, 2352 West Tenth street, where they have lived almost half a century. Mr. Baughman will be 89 years old next Dec. 24, and Mrs. Baughman observed her eighty-third birthday anniversary April 17.

They were married March 4, 1869, in Pike county, Ill., where Mr. Baughman, a native of Ohio, engaged in farming until 1887, when they moved to Marion [*]. For many years Mr. Baughman drilled water wells. They are living in the same house to which they moved in 1887.

Mr. Baughman was active until about five years ago, and recently has been handicapped by failing sight. Mrs. Baughman does her own housework and laundry, and both say they are in good heath.

Mr. Baughman, at the age of 17, tired to enlist in the Union army, but the Civil War came to an end before he could be sent into active service.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Baughman. Three sons and a daughter, died, and three daughters are living. They are Mrs. Bertha Bailey, Indianapolis; Mrs. Ella Ritter, Eau Claire county, Wis., and Mrs. Cecil Shaw, Marion.

* In about 1875, they moved to from Illinois to Kosciusko County, Indiana, where Mrs. Baughman (Clara Himes) had been born and raised. They were joined in that move by two siblings of Clara--her sister Margaret married to Daniel Baughman's brother Lewis, and her brother Thomas Himes]
