• Mission Peak in Fremont. Particularly nice is a summer evening hike from the end of Stanford Ave--leave at 6:45pm sharp, get to the top at around 8:15pm. Enjoy the view for half an hour and then return to the parking lot before it closes at 10pm. Be sure to bring a flashlight and lots of water--it is a 2100 foot climb!

• Lake Del Valle is a beautiful lake just south of Livermore--only an hour drive from the South Bay
• Mount Diablo State Park has great views of the whole bay area and California's central valley.

• The US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model is Sausalito is a three-dimensional hydraulic model of San Francisco Bay and Delta areas capable of simulating tides and currents. The Model is over 1.5 acres in size and represents an area from the Pacific Ocean to Sacramento and Stockton, including: the San Francisco, San Pablo and Suisun Bays and a portion of the Sacramento - San Joaquin Delta.
