Art
Ever since I can remember I've been playing with paint. Starting with one of those "paint by numbers" kits when I was small and moving on to tiny traveling watercolor kits it seems that I have always had a brush in my hands. I am intrigued by color and enjoy the magic of watching new shades emerge as colors collide and mix. In 1983 I took a Painting on Silk class at an art school in Ontario. In Japan when I attended the Oomoto School of Traditional Japanese Arts in Kameoka I was introduced to Japanese brush painting and calligraphy. At Stanford I studied drawing technique and at the Pacific Art League of Palo Alto I took a wonderful watercolor class with Steven Curl, an inspiring teacher and cartoonist. In 2007 I took an introductory class in Botanical Art at the Filoli Gardens. I was thrilled with this dicipline, and began my study of how to draw plants and flowers in a realistic manner.
Here are a few of my images. The first three are paintings on fabric. The botanical works are 11" X 13". The red apple is done with colored pencil. The Japanese Garden is a watercolor.
