Principles of Biology: Plant Biology, Evolution, and Ecology
BIOSCI 43. (Mudgett, Petrov, Gordon)
Principles of plant biology: plant evolution, plant structure and function, photosynthesis, transport, plant growth in response to nutrients, hormones, light, pathogens, stress; Principles of evolution: marco- and microevolution and population genetics. Ecology: the principles underlying the changes of mass and energy between organisms and their environments: population, community and ecosystem ecology; population, evolution, and global change.
Lectures: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 11:00-12:15pm.
Prerequisites: CHEM 31 (or 32), 33, 35; MATH 19, 20, 21, or 41, 42 or consent of the instructors.
Offered: Spring quarter; 5 units.
 

Plant Biochemistry
BIOSCI 257. (Mudgett, Barton, Briggs, Ehrhardt, Frommer, Grossman, Somerville, Wang)
The biochemistry of plants relevant to their physiology and cell biology. Topics include: the biosynthesis, assembly, function and regulation of: cell walls, lipids, pigments, photoreceptors, transporters, and the response of plants to pathogens and stresses.
Lectures: Tuesday and Thursdays 10:00-11:30am.
Prerequisites: Biological Sciences Core or equivalent, or consent of instructors.
Offered: Spring quarter; 3 units.
 
 
Plant Biology Seminar
BIOSCI 342. (Mudgett, Barton, Berry, Briggs, Frommer, Grossman, Long, Somerville, Walbot, Wang)
Topics announced at the beginning of each quarter. Current literature. May be repeated for credit.
Lectures: Fridays 4:00-5:30pm.
Prerequisites: Consent of instructors.
