The F1 is Ducati's Pantah-engined racebike. Exceptional handling, light-weight, and smooth running, it epitomizes Ducati's philosophy of what's best for the track is best for the street. This particular edition, the F1-S, is the US street legal version that came with improved mirrors, a quieter Silentium exhaust, a speedometer calibrated in mph and the dual rear section of the F1 Santa Monica special edition. However, this bike has the rare Montjuich 2-1 racing exhaust which makes it now sound like a small-block V8! The sound is exceptional and steals the thunder from the 916s and 996s.

I'm the second owner, having bought the bike with approximately 2900 miles from the original owner in '95 . The odometer is currently at around 8200 miles. The belts were replaced and the valve clearances checked at 6700 miles. Recently the bike was given a compression and leakdown test at a local shop and passed with no problems. A copy of that inspection report is available here.

The bike is nearly perfect and runs exceedingly well. I have been through it and rectified all the usual Ducati gremlins (regulator, jetting, seat comfort, etc.). The only flaw is that one of the chain guard mounting tabs vibrated off during some highway riding. This is a very minor problem that happens to these bikes, largely because the chain guard was a late addition that was attached with weak welds. It's fine without it, and I report this mainly to underscore the quality of the bike overall. A picture of the break is available here.

The bike combines the rare attributes of being a daily rider with looking brand new. It makes great power through the entire range and tops out smoothly. It's a blast to ride, supremely capable without being overwhelming. I'm interested in selling it simply because I now have various other projects and it no longer gets ridden much.

Some of the additions and modifications that have been done over the last couple of years have included:

  • Montjuich exhaust
  • Surflex clutch
  • Front fork rebuild by Lindemann Engineering
  • New battery
  • Nissin brake and clutch master cylinders
  • Dyna coils
  • Electrex regulator
  • Teflon brake and clutch lines
  • Speed bleeders on brakes and clutch
  • Corbin Seat

All the original parts are included, including the original warranty and registration! These include the belly pan, rear seat section, Silentium pipes, users manual, and workshop manual.

The buyer will be expected to pay shipping charges from Palo Alto, CA. However, I'll would be willing to deliver the bike within a 100 mile radius of Palo Alto.
