Solomon attained a BA with honors and Phi Beta Kappa membership in Political Science and Global Studies at UC Santa Barbara in 2002, and a Masters degree in International Politics from the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at UC San Diego as a Dean’s Fellow in 2005. At UC San Diego, he co-founded the Journal of International Policy Solutions and, with advice from Matthew Shugart, conducted policy research indicating that Indonesia could strengthen its democratic system by switching from a parliamentary to a presidential form of government. He served briefly as an intern with the State Department at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, and at the U.S. Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa. He then worked for Science Application International, conducting research (content analysis) on international politics and media. He is currently working with Shanto Iyengar on the role of implicit attitudes in politics. He is also working on a project investigating how Internet media changes the way people consume news. His other research interests include automated content analysis and social network analysis. He is also the current Assistant Editor for Political Communication.
