To get from the floor of the Lauterbrunnen Valley to the mountain village of Murren on the plateau above (where we stayed; highly recommended!) you take a funicular that goes up over 2000 feet at a 55% grade (according to the guide book). Amazing ride, and with views like this (Staubbach Falls) to boot!
