Side trip to Pisa

We weren't originally planning to go to Pisa, but found ourselves back in Florence on Christmas afternoon and noticed it was a pretty short train ride to Pisa, so off we went to see the culturally ubiquitous landmark (and the other works of medieval religious architecture adjacent to it, in the "Campo dei Miracoli"). There were swarms of tourists, mostly asian tourists taking the obligatory "holding up the leaning tower" photo of each other, which made it feel like an absolute zoo compared with the quieter (at least in December) parts of Tuscany that we had been spending time in previously. We walked through the length of central Pisa without finding anything else of interest, however, so that afternoon was enough for us.
