The facade of the Duomo (Cathedral) of Orvieto (southern Umbria) is considered one of the most spectacular in Italy. One guidebook calls it "just the right side of overkill". Here it is with the light of sunset on it. (And note the stripes down the sides of the building; the Italians of the Gothic era really loved their stripes...)
