Western Europe
Main Street, Sovana
Sovana is a delightfully atmostpheric tiny hill-town in southern Tuscany, settled by the 7th century BC, and still very medieval-feeling. Not very many tourists make it to this area compared with many other parts of Tuscany (we seemed to be the only ones there on a cold morning in December), which helps. It has some truly ancient churches of interest, nearby Etruscan tombs, and quaint lanes like this one (which was actually the main street through town!).
