Having seen a moderate amount of northern European Gothic architecture while growing up, Northern Italian Gothic architecture looks bizarre to me. They really liked dark-and-light-striped masonry, which I find garish; but tastes vary. This one is the Duomo (Cathedral) of Siena. It was indeed impressive and beautiful (in an overwhelming way).
