Etruscan Arch, Volterra

Volterra was one of our favorite Tuscan hill-towns. It's on a high plateau, with medieval-feeling buildings, alabaster workshops, a fantastic museum of Etruscan artifacts, and bits of ancient ruins scattered about (it was an important Etruscan city, later Roman). The "Arco Etrusco", or "Etruscan Arch", is at one of the gates in the town walls. Parts of it are Etruscan (3rd century BC), with Roman and medieval parts too. The dark stone heads were probably Etruscan gods. Volterra had wonderful atmosphere!
