Brunelleschi's Famous Dome

Anyone who's studied Renaissance architecture knows about Brunelleschi's dome for Florence's Duomo (cathedral). One can get a great view of it if one climbs the 414 steps to the top of the adjacent Campanile (here, near sunset). One can get a different great view of it by climbing the 463 steps that wind up the inside of the dome itself and come out at the top (where you can see the people on the viewing platform). We did both. (If you climb the dome, be sure to take a good look at the frescoes on the inside surface of the dome, which you can see from a balcony partway up; the images of hell are particularly lurid.)
