Pope Leo XIII called Orvieto's Gothic-style Duomo "The Golden Lily of Italian Cathedrals". It certainly is overwhelming, though perhaps not entirely tasteful in its overexuberence. (Started in 1290, construction and decoration continued over the next several centuries.)
