Not as many tourists get to far southern Tuscany than to other parts of the province, but we did. Sorano is one of the old hill-towns of the area, in an area of dramatic cliffs, chasms and tufa. It suffers from landslides, however, and large parts of the town are uninhabited. The surrounding countryside is full of ancient Etruscan tombs and ancient Etruscan pathways cut deep into the tufa.
