Norway #25

Along a hiking trail in the Lofoten Islands

A local man we ran into as we started up the trail gave us advice for this section of it: "Keep to the right. If you go left, you will die. And don't trust the grass." (Lake Tridalsvatnet from the trail from Tind to Munkebu hut, on Moskenes, with the ground cover in autumn colors.) The Lofotens not only have scenic mountains, they have many scenic lakes like this one too. Earlier on this trail, we were passed by a Norwegian jogging up the trail (which we were slowly trudging up) carrying several two-by-fours. He dropped them off at the top of the slope, jogged back down, picked up a couple more, and passed us jogging again, muttering to us, "Building a cabin!" on his way by. Once at the top, he loaded them into a rowboat (which could only have been carried up the same slope!) and rowed them across a lake. Norwegians are tough!
