The ancient Lycians (the inhabitants of the southwest corner of Turkey in classical times) often hollowed tombs out of cliff faces. (They were originally sealed, but later broken into by looters.) Stylistically, they were heavily influenced by the ancient Greeks. This is a group of cliff tombs in the ancient city of Myra, Turkey, on the Lycian coast.
