Nikko, Japan, is famous for its extremely elaborate 17th century mausoleum-turned-shrine architecture set in a forested mountain town. According to one guidebook, there is an old Japanese proverb that goes, "Think nothing splendid until you have seen Nikko"; but an alternate interpretation of it is "See Nikko and say 'enough'!"
