Todai-ji Temple's main hall is built around a 53 foot (16 m) tall bronze Buddha staute. One of the interesting things about Buddhist temples in Japan is the very large number of booths selling good luck charms and fortunes; I was particularly amused by the intersection between traditional charms and modern life, including a "charm for traffic safety" and a "charm for successful test scores".
