Medicine Lake, Jasper National Park, Canadian Rockies
This lake varies from full through virtually empty over the course of a year, since the outflow is only via cracks in the lake bed which have a limited throughput. Over the rainy part of the year, the inflow is much larger than the maximum possible outflow, so it fills; over the drier part of the year, the outflow is greater than the inflow until it virtually dries up. This picture was taken in late September, when it was extremely low; the rocky area in the foreground is part of the lakebed in other times of the year! (Note the bit of fall color, too.)
