Your Sullivan Story

Did your grandfather Michael have a love affair with a mysterious lady in Tralee in 1885? Maybe she was my grandmother! Add your story here and send it by pushing the button at the bottom of the page. Your story will become part of the Sullivan archives! Here is an example of a Sullivan story:

1873: "I'm Glad to be rid of the Place!"

This year my great grandfather Thomas Sullivan and his wife Ellen (Fitzgerald) leave Kilorgin Ireland for Boston, where fiddle-playing Tom will work as a stonemason until he is disabled by a falling brick while working on the construction of the Boston Public Library. Meanwhile Ellen cleans houses on Beacon Hill by day, cooks for the children and boarders at home in the South End, then returns to work cleaning floors at Filene's by night. "It's a grand place," she tells me of America when I stay with her in her cheerful double-decker in Jamaica Plain in the forties. As for dear old Kilorgin, Ireland, "I'd not care to go back, even for a visit!"

Notice that the story provides some insight into the history and attitude of this particular family.
