May 26-27th, 2007 - Charlotte Dome

All our friends were going to Bishop, so we went to climb Charlotte Dome, a long moderate deep in the bowels of Kings Canyon. Polly had been wanting to do it since I was in diapers.

Here's the route. Goes up behind that big pine on the right, kinda following the ridge. Trademark furrows visible at top.

Turned out it was pretty nice. Global warming gave us July conditions in late May, and the hike from the west side went pretty quick. Camped out. Slogged 2000' to the base in the morning. Polly on the approach:

Simuled the first four. Polly on p5.

Polly on p8 or so:

Top out on a cool airy little ridge, short scramble to the summit block.

Really nice views looking south on the climb and on the descent. Hiked out and drove home on Sunday night, which ended up being a somewhat long day.
