Jan 22nd 2006, Pinnacles with Dan and Wyatt

Spent an enjoyable day at "the Pinns" getting hauled up hard climbs by Wyatt "Dosa" Smith and Burt "Dan Urban" Bronson. Dan "warmed up" on POD, cruising it, and I got to flail on the follow. Next Wyatt went for the onsight on Foreplay, with a whip or two at the crux. Dan followed, and I was thankfully left to sit on my ass in the sun.

The Dan and Wyatt train next went to Feed the Beast, which Dan powered through, and then Wyatt led with a hang. I was "taking pictures" and so was unable to attempt the route.

Then we went and checked out Sundial on the far side of the Monolith, which I managed to lead without embarrassing myself (as it would be my only lead of the day), followed by Dan, and then by Wyatt. Not-so-steep balancey stuff is roughly 14 grades easier for me than comparably-rated steep stuff.

We trundled down through some poison oak to have a look at Black Dagger, an unlikely looking route with a burly start, high first bolt, and bad fall onto a tree. Dan and Wyatt both gave it many attempts on lead, taking some exciting falls onto the aforementioned tree, until we finally rigged a stick clip to make things a little more reasonable. Now that things weren't so scary I gave it a go, advancing things one bolt further until I pumped out. Dan then took back over and led to the top.

We ended the day on Discovery Wall, where Dan and Wyatt both led Verdict cleanly as the sun was setting. I once again managed to flail on TR, taking a fall near the top. I have yet to climb a day with Wyatt when the climbing was finished while the sun was still up.
