Community Energy Education: Chena Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies

Once in a long while a truly unique place and vision comes into focus. The educational and research focused nonprofit the Chena Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies CCREST is dedicated to improving science education for K-12 and also hosts technical research workshops to foster continued learning in energy conversion and natural resource management. The state of the art binary geothermal power plant, absorption chiller for the ice palace, and hydroponic greenhouses have received awards from the National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Energy, as well as being prominently featured in the press, including two airings focused on renewable energy on the Today Show in 2008. As a founding board member of the CCREST nonprofit I continue to watch it grow and have high hopes for our continued collaborations with the local schools.

Hosted at the Chena Hot Springs Resort northeast of Fairbanks current projects and educational tours can be found here at Chena Hot Springs Resort at http://www.chenahotsprings.com/ice-museum-renewables/

Favorite Artists

Steve captures images that cannot help but capture hearts. He is one of most talented photographers I've ever known-- and so I asked his permission to link to his gallery. My favorites are the aerial images. Being a pilot and photographer he always manages to capture such unique light, enjoy!
