Engineering students take a variety of paths in the academic careers. As part of the
Academic Pathways Study (under the umbrella of the NSF-funded Center for the Advancement of
Engineering Education), my colleagues and I are seeking a comprehensive account of how people
become engineers by exploring key engineering education questions around skills and identity
development. We are particularly interested in building upon knowledge related to persistence in
undergraduate engineering education in the United States.
As part of APS, we will be deploying a 10-minute online survey at over 20 American universities
in January and February of 2008. More information about the survey, APPLES - Academic Pathways
of People Learning Engineering Survey - can be found at
www.applesurvey.org.
