Who am I?: The official version and public bio

Heidy Maldonado is a Doctoral Candidate in Learning Sciences and Technology Design at Stanford University. She holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science, as well as a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies, all from Stanford University.

Her research interests include computer supported collaborative learning and work; mobile interface design for learning and collaboration; cross-cultural interface design; design and interaction with embodied expressive computer agents.

Together with Prof. Roy Pea and Prof. Scott Klemmer, Ms. Maldonado is participating in several projects designing and analyzing mobile technologies for interdisciplinary collaboration and learning.

With Dr. Barbara Hayes-Roth, as well as Professors Byron Reeves and Cliff Nass, Ms. Maldonado has also published internationally her research on emotional engagement between humans and rich synthetic characters for learning, embodied on-screen, as robotic partners or pets.

Ms. Maldonado's research in cross-cultural responses to robotic technologies is conducted under the support of Professors Pamela Hinds and Byron Reeves, centered on the study of collaborations and engagement with robotic teammates.

Under Prof. Terry Winograd's aegis, with Dr. Kathleen Morrison she has published and organized courses at Stanford University on the potential for classroom technology to bridge the digital divide, internet entrepreneurship in developing nations, and international technology policy, with Prof. Martin Carnoy.

She is a recipient of the Centennial Teaching Assistant Award from Stanford University, as well as the Ayacucho and Julian-Pillsbury fellowships for her graduate studies. Ms. Maldonado has collaborated with several groups at the MIT Media Lab as a Visiting Scholar, and taken part in research projects with NTT Japan and OAS, a subsidiary of Omron corporation.
