MERLIE the MERLIN 2008-2009

SIGHTINGS 2008-2009
After 16 years, I am having difficulty deciding if the Merlin that we are seeing this year is the real Merlie. For one thing, the bad weather has made it difficult to see. Also, Merlie usually appears around the 20th of October, and our first sighting was not until November 25. Maybe this late arrival is just another example of global warming, or else we are not looking at the right times.

The Merlin that we do have looks like Merlie, however, he does not hang around as much as in the past, but then our area has been "corvidized", and Crows flocked against Merlie last year, and drove him from his tree.

So maybe Merlie is just spending more time where there are fewer Crows, and maybe he is here more often, but we are out of the habit of looking for him on his tree. Well, we will see as the season progresses. He usually leaves around March 20.

The following sightings are for Merlie on TOP of the College Terrace Redwood Tree
