SIGHTINGS 2006-2007
We were away on a birding trip in Brazil [for some pictures Click Here, and then click on "Pictures"]. We didn't return until 10/29/06, which is a little late for the average return time for Merlie.We did see a Merlin on Merlie's tree on 10/30/06, but it was of a light color, and had a long eyebrow - not the real Merlie. Then we had bad weather and it was hard to see the subtle marks on the Merlins that came. But, around 11/12 we had a dark Merlin with a short eyebrow, and it has now been hanging around, so I guess the real Merlie is back. Some days it spends most of the day on his tree, and frequently eating a bird. The daily sightings are below.
Another Raptor who is a regular in the Winter, at least the last five years or so, is Jamie (J), our female Red-tailed Hawk. [Buteo jamaicencis, in case you wondered about her name.] She sits on the MCRW (see below). She spends quite a few hours each day on this tree.
The following sightings are for Merlie on TOP of the College Terrace Redwood Tree (see main page for street address). Sometimes he sits on the "side branch" (SB), and this is indicated below. Sometimes Merlie sits on a tall Redwood Tree at 935 Mears Court (MCRW), two houses away from our house. J = Jamie, our female Red-tailed Hawk that sits and mates on MCRW. LE = Merlin with a Long Eyebrow (not Merlie).
