Project: Using mobile technology for newsgathering

On this page:

About the project:

As the manager of a fast-paced high-energy newsroom, I have come to use mobile and social technology more and more over the last two years.  My reporters both maintain and monitor news and twitter feeds, and we often pursue news tips that come out of these social networking platforms.  But our use of these techniques has been ad hoc and sporadic, and without a methodology or system in place to track potential leads, many good leads get lost – and bad leads get followed.

This year at Stanford, I am exploring ways to standardize the use of social networking, mobile and tagging sites for newsgathering, to create a usable tool for news verification that can be used not only in my radio station, but in other newsrooms around the world.
