The purpose of the Program is to educate future counseling psychologists to

1. Develop a personally satisfying and balanced lifestyle;

2. Work cooperatively and ethically as team members to achieve goals;

3. Provide educational resources and opportunities that help empower clients to create more satisfying lives;

4. Contribute new knowledge to counseling theory and practice and be able to explore and evaluate critically knowledge claims on the basis of warranted evidence;

5. Understand and respond sensitively to the diversity of individuals in terms of their affective styles, values, beliefs and behavior;

6. View counseling primarily as an educational process and clients and counselors as lifelong learners;

7. Develop, implement and evaluate prevention and intervention programs that promote emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual health and well being; and

8. Consider the role of counseling in contributing to individuals, families, organizations and communities that are creating a sustainable future.
