Stanford
University Athletics Strength and Conditioning Program is accepting
applications for Interns for the Winter-Spring 2010 Semester / Quarter
(First week of January through the first week of June).
Stanford
University Athletics has long been regarded as "The Champion
of NCAA Champions.” Since 1990, Cardinal athletes have won 55
NCAA team championships—the most in the nation. Stanford University
has won the Directors’ Cup, honoring the most successful program
in NCAA Division I sports, the last 14 years. In 2007–08, Stanford
won two national team championships and had 12 teams ranked in the top
five and 17 ranked in the top 10. Forty-nine athletes and coaches represented
Stanford at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and won 25 individual
medals.
Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive internship experience
in collegiate strength and conditioning. By the end of the internship,
you will be prepared to take the next step in your coaching career.
Our
Interns will do the following:
Learn multiple training philosophies and methodology
Become competent in exercises designed to improve a student-athlete’s
physical performance (including Olympic lifting, plyometrics and med
ball exercises)
Coach student-athletes through workouts under the supervision of experienced
strength coaches
Learn how to plan progressive workout programs for athletes
Other
responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Nutritional supplementation management
Workout equipment set up and break down
Facility Maintenance
Research topics related to performance training
Qualifications:
A strong desire to pursue a career in the strength and conditioning
field
Applicants must be working towards completion of a degree and require
an internship to fulfill graduation requirements
Competent in anatomy and physiology
Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word
Outgoing and professional
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship.
