Acoustic Pop/Rock

Grey Eye Glances

My favorite band, based out of Philadelphia, PA, and utterly incredible live. Light pop with solid lyrics and Jennifer Nobel's hypnotic, amazing voice. If you're interested, pick up a copy of Eventide or browse over to www.greyeyeglances.com and check out their online song samples.

October Project

This band shared a producer with Grey Eye Glances but unfortunately split up after only two CDs. They've gotten back together, with a different lead singer, as November Project, but to my ear, they lack the magic of their first albums, although they still have much of the lush, soothing music foregrounded by poetic lyrics.

Vienna Teng

I've just recently been turned onto this artist, but she has a great voice, which she combines with haunting lyrics and beautiful piano. You can find more about her online at viennateng.com

Dance/Trance

No favorite artists, but some favorite songs:

DJ Encore - Walking in the Sky
Solid Sessions - Janeiro
4 Strings - Take Me Away (Into The Night)

Listen to the radio, do you?

How about Internet radio? di.fm has a number of Dance/Trance channels streaming out, all with no commercials. I usually wander around in the "Vocal Trance" channel.

If you're in the bay area, you're in luck - KPTI 92.7 FM based out of Berkeley plays quality dance tunes round the clock.

The last time I was in the Seattle area, C89.5 FM played a nice combination of top 40 and dance remixes.

Otherwise, you can e-tune into Miami's FM 93.1 (owned by the same company as KPTI, they play the same format of music) and supposedly have an online stream available.

Miscellaneous

Enya

I suppose I'll be mocked for this, but her music is fun to listen to, and also easy enough that hobby pianists (like myself) can get into the music.

Food
I'm no food critic, but I do eat...

Mike's Grill -- Blacksburg VA

Mike's has the best burgers in the known world. I know you're not likely to believe me, but ask anyone who's eaten there, and I assure you they'll back me on this one. They've raised the meagre burger to a new level.

Kirk's Steakburgers -- Bay Area, CA

When you're 2,800 miles from Mike's, and you've got the craving for a burger, you end up making some sacrifices. But Kirk's does make a mighty fine burger. Until the day I can afford to fly my lunch in....

Macadoo's -- Blacksburg, VA

Don't get me wrong, I really do love the Bay Area, but (so far as I can tell) it's missing a great sandwich shop. Macadoo's is a great sandwich shop - I think they get classified as "gourmet deli sandwiches", but whatever you want to call them, if you've never eaten there, you're missing out.

Stacks -- Bay Area, CA

I suggest their pancakes - massive, cheap, and wonderful. Not as good as Mom's, but they're the best I've ever had at a store.
