Chris Carter is the brainchild and executive producer of the TV series "The X-Files." The show chronicles the exploits of two FBI agents, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny).
In the pilot episode, Scully is assigned to work with Mulder , an enigmatic FBI agent who believes in such things as alien abductions and government conspiracies to hide this information from the public. Scully was originally sent in to debunk Mulder's "X-Files," a collection of paper and computer files of unexplained events and phenomena that defy logic and rational explanations. Mulder is not fooled by Scully's "assignment" to work with him on the "X-Files."
Even though Scully remains skeptical about the validity of the "X-Files,"
she comes to appreciate most of Mulder's approaches to investigating these cases.
However, Scully is always more than willing to add her "rational" suggestions to what
seems to be the unexplainable.
The appeal of the "X-Files" is a combination of the chemistry, without the romance, between the two main characters, Scully and Mulder , and the well-written scripts that are cleverly woven with wit and humor that is delivered with perfect timing by both Duchovny and Anderson. The witticisms are referred to as "Mulderisms" and "Scullyisms," and they offer perfect and appropriate comic relief to the episodes.
"The X-Files" is one of the best reasons for watching television.
