Kindred: The Embraced

"Kindred: The Embraced" is a new tale of vampires that takes place in San Francisco. However, unlike most vampire myths, John Leekley, the series creator of "Kindred: the Embraced," weaves a new tale of the undead who can eat regular food, but must still have blood to survive; can be in direct sunlight for a short time after feeding; mingle among, and pass for mortals; and sleep in regular beds instead of coffins.

The series story line revolves around the main character Julian Luna (Mark Frankel), the "Prince of the City" of the five warring vampire clans. Luna faces the ever present threat of being forcefully removed from his ruling role by one of his factions, as well as being the target of harassment from the mortal Detective Frank Kohanek (C. Thomas Howell), who wants revenge for the murder of his vampire girlfriend.

The show has the feel of "Dynasty" meets "Anne Rice," especially with the premiere episode's beginning that is an obvious rip-off of Rice's movie "Interview With the Vampire." I was also disappointed to see the clearly stolen idea of a vampire bar first introduced in "Forever Knight" as "The Raven," and now has become "The Haven" in "Kindred: the Embraced"

However, even with these flaws in the script, "Kindred: the Embraced" has a raw and suspenseful edge to it that shows great potential for becoming a fascinating series on modern day vampires.

"The Kindred" are composed of five Clans.
(Clans are listed in alphabetical order.)

Sadly, "Kindred: the Embraced" was not renewed by the Fox Network and no longer airs.
