The Hurtigruten (September 25-30, 2009)

I don't usually take pictures when I travel, but somehow my little Canon kept jumping out of my pocket during my trip to Norway this fall. And I'm on sabbatical so I can spend a few minutes putting some pictures online. After giving talks in different parts of Scandinavia, Ivan and I met up in Kirkenes, by the Russian border, and took the mail boat, the Hurtigruten, to the amazing city of Bergen. The trip took five nights and six days, hugging the coast and going in and out of the fjords. Since it carries freight, the Hurtigruten docks every few hours which is perfect because I find the activity in ports really exciting. And it was the ideal relaxing cruise - unbelievable scenery, casual dress, great food, and no entertainment.
