Lamborghini Miura Restoration Log

Week 40, 9 December 2007:

It's been a long time since the last update but work has continued. Not much to report on the bodywork front, though the replacement sheetmetal is being ordered early next week to begin the extensive repairs. Some panels are being reproduced in New Zealand, so some of the parts will be coming from there. Much of it will of course have to be fabricated however.

The engine is ready to be assembled, with all machine work complete, and all internal components in hand. The measurements for the clearances of the valves, bearings, etc. are all complete and found to be very satisfactory. The repairs to the head are complete, the timeserts installed, new valve guides in place etc. As I have mentioned elsewhere (I think), we will be using a modified design with modern valve seals. Also, we are using hardened valve seats so that we can use unleaded fuel.

The suspension parts (wishbones/A-arms) are all refinished, and have new bushings and balljoints. The rear hub carriers are fully restored, greased and ready to go, and the front spindles are restored as well. The shocks have been back from Koni for some time and are ready as well. The brake rotors were surfaced, and the calipers already rebuilt, as outlined in the previous update.
