October 2007

A lot of time has passed between updates, so I'll keep this tight.

Completed Fellowship in 2003, stayed at Stanford Full time as Adjunct Clinical Faculty/Instructor until early 2006.

In that time, I ran the Metastatic Melanoma Clinic at the Stanford Cancer Center and developed a new technology

for interrogating T cell function and cellular interactions:

see the following:

In 2006, I made a difficult decision between forming a startup around this work, staying in academia and going into industry. I decided to

go to Genentech, where I continue to function as a translational oncologist.  I've had the opportunity to spearhead and write a national study

of chemotherapy and anti-angiogenic therapy (Avastin) for stage IV melanoma, which is currently enrolling well.  I've also focused on

correlative science, diagnostics and technology, as it relates to targetted therapy for cancer. I also have continued my clinical practice at

Stanford, caring for patients with Malignant Melanoma.

Cameron, Isabelle and Noah are all doing well and growing quickly.  They all play soccer now, and continue to do well in school.

Deborah is now department chief of OB/GYN at Peninsula Hospital, and continues to enjoy her community practice.

September 2002

The last piece in puzzle is now here... Noah Quinn Chen, dearly loved by his big brother and sister (not to mention Mom & Dad).

I am continuing as a Medical Oncology Fellow at Stanford University Medical Center.  Besides caring for patients with Cancer,
I spend most of my time in Mark Davis' lab studying how cancer cells evade the immune system.

Deb has quickly become a popular OB/GYN in the Burlingame, San Mateo and Half Moon Bay area, and is loving every minute of it.

Cameron is in Kindergarden now, and plays soccer for the Red Rockets in the Burlingame AYSO league.

Isabelle attends preschool, but aspires to be a princess/ballerina.

Hmmm...2.5 year gap. What's new?

-A little baby girl named Isabelle

-Moved into a home (built in 1926) just ten minutes South of downtown San Francisco

-I'm short tracking into Medical Oncology fellowship at Stanford (finishing my Stanford Internal Medicine Residency June 2000)

-Deb loves her OB/GYN practice here in Burlingame

-Having the time of our lives

Oct 9th, 1997:

Well, our little boy Cam is more fun than I could have possibly imagined. Currently, the dangerous toddler is running about the house screaming. When not playing with the boy, I've managed to finish my required clinical rotations. I'm now getting ready for a month of Oncology at UCSF.

Dec 7th 1996:

What a great year 1996 has been. See Cameron.

June 29th 1996:

Well, its my last weekend of my current life.

On Monday, I start my clinical clerkships or rotations across the street at the Big House (a.k.a. LA County Hospital). So much for getting eight hours of sleep and having control over my own hours. The whole thing is so very exciting. That, and equal parts terrifying.

Yes, I finished my Ph.D. and even my half year Post-Doc in W. French Anderson's Gene Therapy Laboratories.
