Muir Woods

Looking up, Muir Woods
A short drive north of San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge, one finds Muir Woods National Monument, a sanctuary of towering, colossal redwoods. The main trail is wide and level, an easy walk for the large number of visitors that come to appreciate the spectacle, though a number of smaller trails head off the beaten path into the trees, allowing one to quickly escape crowds on the more popular days (particularly summertime and holidays...) This photo attempts to give a little bit of upward perspective...

A Big Tree
...and a bit of perspective as to scale (yes, that's me in the shadow in front of the tree). This is one of the side trails leading a bit away from the wide-and-level trail that loops through the spectacular Cathedral Grove.
