Ely Cathedral -- Interior

Ely Cathedral interior
Prime gawking territory inside, as this cathedral encloses a pretty hefty chunk of volume. I came back to the cathedral in mid-December to hear Handel's Messiah, and one could argue that the cathedral was too big for this purpose -- the music sounded a bit distant echoing throughout the cavernous interior. Here, the stained glass was rather well-illuminated in the low noon sun. On a related note, the cathedral also has a small, interesting stained-glass museum explaining the production of stained glass windows and tracing the evolution of the art form.

Cathedral postcard
The south side of the interior: here the sunlight streaming through the (non-stained-glass) windows is captured rather nicely thanks to the leftover incense smoke from a recent service. Seeing these "God rays" streaming across the interior of the cathedral up and down its length was even more impressive in person.
