Derek Miller is a PhD candidate in Theater and Performance Studies at Stanford University, where his research focuses on copyright law and the performing arts, particularly theater and music, in the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. He won a Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship in support of his work. He holds a BA cum laude in English from Yale, with Distinction in the Major.
His articles have appeared in Theatre Journal, Contemporary Theatre Review, and Studies in Musical Theatre. He has presented at national and international conferences, including conferences of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the American Society for Theatre Research, Performance Studies international, and the American Musicological Society.
His extensive experience as a theater practitioner includes work as an actor, writer, music director, and dramaturg.
Next year, he will join the faculty of the Department of English at Harvard University as an Assistant Professor, where he will teach courses in dramatic literature and theater history.
