THE GREATEST SUFFERING

Though we be apart,
we are but a heartbeat away.
I have come to share a Truth
upon this blessed day.

At dawn did the Master and his disciple sit
within the Garden of Contemplation,
and the disciple was eager to begin the lesson of that day
so quietly did he speak unto the Master...

"We live in a world filled with tragedy and pain,
but tell me Master, which is the greatest of all
sufferings endured?"

There was silence deep within the far away look
of the Master's gaze...
...as if he had not heard the disciple's plea to know;
and when he spoke, it was in hushed tones that the
birth of Day might not be disturbed with the sadness
held within his voice.

"As you look into the eyes of the battlefield's fallen soldier...
into the eyes of those starving within poverty's plight...
or into the eyes of the unloved, the despondent, the sick and the abused...
can comfort be given by telling them that you have seen worse?
Each one suffers and endures unto their own human limit
and when they can bear it no more,
their pain is carried away by the One that is limitless.
If you would know the greatest of all suffering endured,
look then into the compassionate depths of these eyes."

And as the disciple did as he was bade to do
he saw, in an instant, the eternal sum of human misery
and every cell of his being was seared with pain and grief;
but when he could bear it no more his suffering was carried away,
leaving him to sob at his Master's feet.

Tearfully did he ask of the Master how it was that he could
endure such terrible, endless suffering?
And tenderly did the Master answer...

"The Pureness of
LOVE
forever endures
and only
LOVE
forever remains."
