THE SERPENT OF THE DUST

Though we be apart,
we are but a heartbeat away.
I have come to share a Truth
upon this blessed day.

Upon this Plane of Existence, there is not another creature
living its life closer to the earth than the snake.
Every part of its body remains in constant contact with the ground
as it makes its way through Life,
hiding beneath the rocks and burrowing into the depths of the
earth to protect itself from the sun's burning rays of light.

No creature is more universally despised or feared than
the serpent of the dust,
and reference to the serpent's evil can be seen throughout
the mystical writings of the past.
However, we must always remember that these writings contain
symbols that stand for the different aspects of our spiritual growth.
And it is when we understand these hidden meanings, that we
begin to unlock the mysteries of the soul.

The serpent of the dust represents the lowest form of sense consciousness...
...desire-thoughts that become obsessions, while focusing on the
external expression, apart from the Source of Life.
Each one of us has, at one time or another, been bitten
by the 'fiery serpent'...
...the lustful expression of Life;
But it is man's own rebellious thoughts that cause the poisons
of evil to spew forth;
And what is man's rebellious thought?
...the belief in the outer, limited error conditions as being real
and that the desire-thoughts of pride, pomp and power
are worthy of one's efforts to attain.

"As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
even so must the Son of man be lifted up."

For a multitude of the faithful, this verse is taken in the literal sense...
...that Moses, in lifting up the serpent for all to see,
healed the Hebrews that were bitten by the fiery serpents,
and so too would Jesus heal all mankind of sin by being lifted up upon the cross.

There is, however, a much deeper, esoteric meaning hidden in this
seemingly simple verse...

The act of Moses, lifting up the serpent made of bronze in the wilderness
symbolizes the uplifting of the undisciplined and uncultivated thoughts
of an individual's sense-consciousness, in effect changing desire-thoughts
into thought-desires, thus healing all who were poisoned with this
lowest form of consciousness.

With this initial shift in consciousness, must also follow an uplifting
of the entire personal consciousness, which is 'the Son of man'...
...from the limited selfish ideas to the Universal Christ Consciousness,
where there abides the realization of Spiritual Truth, which is forever limitless...
...And this is the state where man shall find himself free from sin.
