Though we be apart,
we are but a heartbeat away.
I have come to share a Truth
upon this blessed day.

There once was a man, who lived his life in a selfish manner,
being true to his only revered belief…
‘It is my life and it is all about me.’
And he was successful in all that he attempted,
for every moment was calculated and every relationship
was motivated by his need to fulfill his own selfish desire.
Friendship was bartered and marriage became merely a contract
of convenience, traded to gain yet even more personal power and prestige.
In all aspects of his life was he ruthless and merciless towards others
and he silently smiled within, for he knew that his creed of...
‘It is my life and it is all about me’
had made him a successful and worldly man.
But worldly gain and Life itself will fade more quickly than the
withering rose, and it came to pass that this selfish man’s life
came to a close and no one grieved his passing.
Before his angel did he stand and together they opened the
Book of Life that he might see;
but as the selfish man peered into the depths of his Book,
he saw not his life but rather the face of an old man, saddened
by the years of regret.
And the selfish man declared unto the angel:
“This is not my life, for this is not all about me.”
But the angel replied:
“You have seen but half this story, look again and
know its cause.”
So the man gazed once more into the depths of his Book
and he remembered his employee who had asked him
for time off from his duties to attend more pressing needs;
and he remembered refusing to grant his employee’s request, saying:
“No one’s needs are greater than mine.”
And suddenly he not only remembered the events of the past,
but now he was made to feel the depths of this man’s hellish pain, as
he was forced to choose between providing for his children and kissing
his dying wife goodbye.
And the selfish man cried out in anguish,
but his angel only answered:
“Take care in the deeds we do.”
Then the selfish man peered again into the depths of his Book,
not to see his life, but rather the face of a young man’s muted humiliation.
And the selfish man declared unto the angel:
“This is not my life, for this is not all about me.”
But the angel replied:
“You have seen but half this story, look again and
know its cause.”
So the man gazed once more into the depths of his Book
and he remembered how he had ridiculed and laughed at a
young boy who stuttered in his speech;
and now this selfish man felt the burning silence that the boy
had endured for an entire lifetime.
And again he cried out in anguish,
but the angel only answered:
“Take care in the words we speak.”
Then the selfish man peered into the Book of Life once more
and saw not his life but rather the tear stained face of a sadly
neglected woman;
And the selfish man declared unto the angel:
“This is not my life, for this is not all about me.”
But the angel replied:
“You have seen but half this story, look again and
know its cause.”
So once more did the selfish man gaze into his Book and he
recognized the woman as his own wife and he knew now that
she could read his loveless thoughts towards her;
and suddenly he felt her lifetime of quiet desperation, as she
sought to be loved and he felt also, the ugliness of her own
lack of self-worth.
And the selfish man cried out in anguish,
but the angel only answered:
“Take care in the thoughts we keep.”
And then the angel closed the Book of Life and spoke unto
this selfish, now sobbing man:
“You spent your life in the pursuit of the meaningless, while
trampling the moments that might have added meaning to your life;
and now you stand before me as the poorest of the poor,
for you bring unto me only that which you have written within
the Book of Life.
Your worldly wealth buys not God’s favor.
Your earthly power impresses not the angels holding the very
fabric of the universe in place.
Once a man of wealth, you now become a debtor,
bound to those you have aggrieved…
For this Book is your Life
and it is all about you
and the Love you give away to your
brother and sister souls.”
