Dr. David Fetterman is the Director of Evaluation, Division of Evaluation, in the School of Medicine.  His office is responsible for conducting evaluations of the curriculum, including: the pre-clinical, clerkship, scholarly concentrations, and translating discoveries components.  The Division also collects external data ranging from clinical performance examinations to residency directors' assessments of alumni (PGY-1).

American Evaluation Association

Dr. Fetterman is the past-president of the American Evaluation Association and is currently the Collaborative, Participatory, and Empowerment Co-chair in the association.  Dr. Fetterman has been awarded the two highest honors presented by the American Evaluation Association:  Myrdal Award for Evaluation Practice and the Lazersfeld Award for Evaluation Theory.  (For a more detailed review of his awards, publications, and research see the boxes below.)

Evaluator

Dr. Fetterman is best known for his methodological contributions in the areas of:  ethnography and empowerment evaluation.  However, he conducts a variety of evaluations. The most common approaches include: needs assessments, traditional pre- and post-test assessments, online surveys, case study, participatory, and empowerment evaluations.

Invited Speaker, Workshop Facilitator, Project Director

Dr. Fetterman has been invited to speak about evaluation throughout the world.  In addition, he has has facilitated workshops and conducted projects throughout the United States and internationally including:  Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand, South Africa, and Spain.
