This
photo was taken just prior to liberation by an American aircraft flying over
the prison camp in Niigata, Japan, where Antonio Dattorro and
others were held for two and ½ years during WWII. Visible are the letters PW (prisoner of war)
on two roofs. This is a low resolution
BW scan of an original sepia print. Here
is a high
resolution scan (a large MS Word
file) zoomed-in on the camp so that the surviving American captives are visible
to the naked eye. Here is the back side of the sepia with my father’s caption.
