Arriving at Stanford

I arrived here yesterday at around 1:30 (Pacific Time, the one below my blog is set to) and dumped my stuff in my room before setting out for a tour of campus. The only thing I did before was trying to get a wireless connection to write home, without much luck. It turned out that most people aren't on campus, or were not in their rooms. The only people I was able to find initially were Eric Sun and Eric Chase, so congratulations to both of you. Upon returning I realized I had forgotten my LAN cable. Stanford without Internet is not much fun (Wow, I'm such a geek), so Sara (my former RA) offered to drive me to Fry's. There are some things you should not do when jetlagged. Buying electronics is one of them. I bought a phone cable instead of a LAN cable. But it was really cheap... Fortunately Shedletsky showed up, and offered to lend me cable for now.

My room is quite nice, though there are a few tiny issues with it I need to get fixed. I spend most of yesterday unpacking and setting up a few things. It seems like Ambili left us her couch, and since Chris bought a new one, I am keeping this one and giving my big couch to Travis. Somewhat foolishly, I stayed up quite late yesterday, which is not good when trying to drag out your jetlag (its good to shorten the jetlag). Jetlags can be quite nice when you want to get up early; mine is the reason for my being up now. I woke up at eight and went to the library to get some DVDs to watch while setting up my room. Apparently, I can only get 2 at once so I will have to go back later today. I also checked my mail and found that I had gotten tons of stuff over the summer. I've gotten lots of things from Usenix, which should make for interesting. Now I'm going to watch The Hours and make this room look inhabitable.
