Welcome to the blog of Can Sar, a Stanford CS major. This blog is made up of my thoughts on Computer Science and the computer industry, as well as ever exciting tales from my life.
After posting yesterday's Medal post I went out for dinner. When I got back I was shocked to see that the decision was reversed, and that Rogan won silver after all. I am not nearly knowledgeable enough about the rules of swimming to say whether there was any reason to disqualify Peirsol in the first place, but I think that giving him the gold medal was still the right decision. Both Peirsol and Rogan swam amazing races and nobody can deny that throughout the Olympics Peirsol has been absolutely amazing and virtually unbeatable. Peirsol won the race by a lot more time than he could ever have gained by using a wrong stroke during his diving phase.
Therefore, the final result is: Peirsol Gold, Rogan Silver. Congratulations.
it was reversed again. phelps won.
Um, Phil, I'm sorry to say, but I think you're a bit confused here. Phelps didn't compete in either of the backstroke races, but did end up getting a total of 5 gold and 2 or 3 bronze medals in other races. In the end Peirsol won gold, and Rogan silver.
