Weblog Academics

There is a big emphasis on academic study of weblogs at the conference, which unfortunately, seems quite useless to me. The relative lack of attention of the audience at this time confirms this. Trying to study some of the more abstract aspects of weblogging (e.g. liveness and authenticity) academically doesn't work well, because there is so little there in the first place, authenticity is simply not a rich subject, and picking it apart and trying to analyze it to pieces, makes it disappear completely. Lots of talk, little substance. I prefer the less academic Wouldn't it be cool if style of talk.

Academic research should strive for substance and doing research requires it. I think talk about what's cool has its place. And trust or authenticity is an important issue of digital publishing.

Did you enjoy "tools" talk more?

May be academic thinking is too conceptual to be appied immediately, but at least it brings something new.

Ok, it's too conceptual; albeit leaves room for interpretation. We should have the most diverse talks as possible and integrate as many views as possible.
